Epimediums

Epimedium x cantabrigiense

Description – This is a medium sized evergreen hybrid of E. alpinum crossed with E. pubigerum.  It was discovered at Cambridge Botanical Garden in 1950, having occurred spontaneously in a bed of Epimediums. It is a vigorous groundcover type plant which will cope with a more challenging spot than most Epimedium varieties. Having said that it is not worthy of a choicer place in the garden as the flowers are rather insignificant. There are several named plants including E. ‘Little Shrimp’ and E. ‘Jenny Pym’, which are probably a result of the same cross. These two are shorter than the type.
