Epimediums

Epimedium platypetalum

Distribution  - China, Sichuan province.

Description –  A low growing evergreen species which is related to E. campanulatum and ecalceratum and like them is a gem for a raised bed in partial shade. Its leaves carry three or commonly five small rounded leaflets, shaded reddish brown when young.  The flowers of four spurless petals form an open bell shape. The rhizomes are of the long thin creeping type, and it seems to do alright in a pot.
